European Railroad Discussion > Before the wires come - 2Date: 05/18/16 14:02 Before the wires come - 2 Author: 86235 Some more pictures over the last few days along the Tottenham and Forest Gate end of the Gospel Oak to Barking Line, it has just over two weeks to go before the temporary closure to prepare for electrification.
1: One of the eight twin car class 172 DMUs which provide all te passenger service over the Goblin. It's approaching Blackhorse Road from the direction of Walthamstow Queens Road 2: The 4L26 Theale to Dagenham empty hoppers approaching Warner Road in Walthamstow 3: Monday's 4S53 London Gateway to Coatbridge crossing the Lea Valley along Ferry Road between Blackhorse Road and Tottenham Hale Date: 05/18/16 14:09 Re: Before the wires come - 2 Author: 86235 4: The second picture showed the 4L26 at about 15:30 this afternoon. Some four hours later the same train is heading west loaded with sand bound for Acton, reporting number is the 6V35. It's passing Leyton Midland Road, a rather windswept expanse of platform. The weather was very variable today.
5: Here's a 172 arriving in Leyton Midland Road from Barking, as you can see the platforms were once much longer, presumably to cater for East Londoners off for a day at the seaside at Southend. 6: And finally at just after 8 p.m this evening at South Tottenham, which is the junction of the Tottenham and Forest Gate and Tottenham and Hampstead Junction, the 4L40 carrying Minis for export. I estimate the value of the cargo on this train is in the region of $8 million! A shower was soaking the environs of Crouch End and Muswell Hill, judging by the size of the puddles when I got off the next Gospel Oak bound train at Crouch Hill. Edited 2 time(s). One rather parochial question: why is the empty hopper train class 4, while the loaded one is class 6? Now that everything is braked, what is the difference? Is it in max permitted speed?
Date: 05/18/16 20:45 Re: Before the wires come - 2 Author: SOO6617 Class 4 trains are allowed 75 mph, while Class 6 are allowed 60 mph, and Class 7 are only allowed 45 mph.
