European Railroad Discussion > Hamburg-Harburg, another short visit on Friday April 29 2016Date: 06/24/16 20:56 Hamburg-Harburg, another short visit on Friday April 29 2016 Author: tq-07fan We rode into centre city Hamburg with our friend then went to Miniatur-Wunderland. After lunch there we rode to Ahrensburg and back, Paul wanted to ride there and back again but I suggested that we return to Harburg for a little bit before Lars got off of work.
1) Snack Wagen denied! 2) Much cloudier than the day before but I got a few shots I had missed, including the station itself. 3) 186247 that was on the first container train we saw at Wilhelmsburg the day before. Who knows what it was doing but it came of the route that goes the Cuxhaven direction. Date: 06/24/16 20:58 Re: Hamburg-Harburg, another short visit on Friday April 29 2016 Author: tq-07fan We had rode an RE-5, the diesel powered train to Cuxhaven. This put me on the platforms to see the reverse move up close.
4) 186247 going back behind the signal as the RE-5 we had rode in on has not yet reversed direction. 5) A minute later and it's ready to be pushed toward Cuxhaven. 6) A minute after that and it's taking the Slow Speed signal to go through the crossovers toward Cuxhaven. Date: 06/24/16 20:59 Re: Hamburg-Harburg, another short visit on Friday April 29 2016 Author: tq-07fan 7) I found the changing direction on the Cuxhaven trains interesting. It really shows the benefit of push pull operation.
8-9) boxXpress.de Class 193 and container train. The websites on the locomotives make it easier to look them up at home. Date: 06/24/16 21:01 Re: Hamburg-Harburg, another short visit on Friday April 29 2016 Author: tq-07fan I then went into the overhead walkway which allowed for some good pictures, even through the glass.
10) Our 186247 shunts back through the crossovers. 11) RB 41 with a container train coming into the picture in the far upper left. 12) The next RE 5 to Cuxhaven. Cuxhaven can also be reached by ferry from Hamburg which would probably be a nice circle trip sometime. Date: 06/24/16 21:02 Re: Hamburg-Harburg, another short visit on Friday April 29 2016 Author: tq-07fan 13) An ICE train comes in
14) It is passed by a tanker train led by two RGH Class 143s. 15) The 143s pass a Class 223 diesel. Date: 06/24/16 21:04 Re: Hamburg-Harburg, another short visit on Friday April 29 2016 Author: tq-07fan 16) Rear of the tanker train. Saw a lot of tanker trains in Germany, many with GATX and VTG tank cars.
17) Mole with a vacuum to clean ballast on the poster. 18) Back on the train back to Hamburg. Some places had a small table in between the seats. Thank you for looking!
