Gotthard traffic levels?

I am hoping to plan a trip to see the Gotthard one more time in early October of this year. With the new Base Tunnel openning, I want to catch as much as I can going the old route. I am under the impression that most of the traffic is still going up and over while the tunnel is in "testing" phase, and it is anticipated that the full traffic volumes will divert thru the tunnel around the first of 2017 - is this correct? Thanks!
