A Garrett on the Welsh Highland Railway.
Author: CimaScrambler

I've been around for a long time, and I'd pretty well figured I'd never see a Garrett locomotive other than of the stuffed-and-mounted variety.  So when we decided to ride the Welsh Highland Railway, I was pretty much in heaven.  The former South African Railways Garretts hosted on the WHR are very much amazing beasts, and getting to see them in action was pure pleasure.  Here is the northbound run of the morning Porthmadog-Caernarfon train lead by Garrett #87 in its midnight blue livery pulling into Beddgelert Station for water and passengers.

Relatives of this locomotive can also be found at the private Sandstone Estates in South Africa. They hold a public event in April of  each year "Stars of Sandstone." I'm sure a Google search would produce more information if you are interested.

Nice picture, they really are the most wondrous beasts to see in action.
