European Railroad Discussion > Finse - occupying main track and sidingsDate: 12/01/16 09:41 Finse - occupying main track and sidings Author: JGFuller In watching the Finse station webcam, I saw today a front-end loader and what appears to be a ballast regulator, removing snow from the tracks. In so doing, do they obtain authority to occupy the track, similar to North American "Track and Time" authority? If not, how is protection afforded?
From Union Pacific's version of the General Code of Operating Rules: 10.3: Track and Time The control operator may authorize a train to occupy a track or tracks within specified limits for a certain time period. Authority must include track designation, track limits, and either a time limit or the words “until released”. The train may use the track in either direction within the specified limits according to signal indication until the limits are verbally released.
