African Steam Locomotives

I have watched several videos of Africa steam engines, 4-8-2 and 4-8-4,  and it appears that they do not have sand lines for the drivers.  I looked closely at the videos and could not see any.  Am I correct?

Take a closer look and see if you can spot the lid of a small box level with the running boards; the sand box. Then look in front of the first driver for the pipe.

That said, there are some of us who have placed stones on the rails ahead of the locomotives as they tried to gain traction!
