FINLAND: my first train of 2017 (double Allegro)
Author: Stas

Happy New 2017 to all!
Today I decided to give a start of the new year with a brief trainspotting. I walked to Kerava station to take photos of double set of Allegro trains. As you remember, Sm6 Allegro runs between Helsinki and St. Petersburg. And traditionally around the new year time there is increase in tourist traffic from Russia. But this is the first time when VR and RZd did some real change in traditional Christmas time traffic. Until January 8Th Allegro runs in a set of two. The first time.
13:30 was the only time when it is possible to photograph Allegro in the daylight, still using ISO500.

1. Allegro rushing to Helsinki from Russia.

2. Another "catch": IS2 train pulled by Sr2 #3230 with Edo #09 driving trailer at the back.

No, not in Southern Finland. This is, actually, great day - some sunshine. Usually it is much more grey.

Helsinki to St Petersburg is 250 miles, in summer there are four Allegro departures in each direction daily taking about three and a half hours, there is food service.

Yes. And brushes to clean snow and ice. Why double? My guess is because freight traffic is using this line also, or for winter reliability. Pretty much like LAN architecture for reliability :)

Thanks Stas, I was looking in the summer timetable so wasn't sure that the schedule remained the same in winter.
