Crossrail, a Switzerland based freight operator, shut down yesterday. The majority of their services have been taken over by SBB Cargo and its International subsidiary. SBB Cargo International has also assumed the leases on some of Crossrail's locomotives. Crossrail services operated by BLS and DB Cargo under contract are not affected. Crossrail Drivers based at Basel and Brig are being offered employment by SBB. Crossrail will retain its operating certificate and its corporate status. This change has been rumoured for several weeks.
