Railroaders' Nostalgia > AFT Maps NYC to MilfordDate: 08/06/14 18:33 AFT Maps NYC to Milford Author: BoilingMan August 2, 1976
This was an all daylight run. The Long Island RR took us up and over the Hell Gate Bridge, where Conrail took over with B-23's for the rest of the way to Milford. About 20 miles on the LIRR, 62 on Conrail. Maybe 80 miles or so in total. The display track at Milford is gone now. Meanwhile: After handing off The AFT to GG-1's at Newark on July 26, the T-1 had gone up to Selkirk NY. On Aug 2 they traveled to Milford to meet back up with the train there. The route was somewhat complicated by the fact the T-1 had to avoid the 3rd rail lines that reached from Grand Central to Harmon and While Plains. I am not 100% certain as to the route I've shown for the T-1, but it's based on corispondence with Ross Rowland, Steve Wickersham (fireman) and others, and is probably very close.
