SP Coast engineer & others - identification sought
Author: KMiddlebrook

Per SPNudge's suggestion, I will periodically post images from our collection of SP Coast engineers to assist in identifying.

These particular two images are related. In faint lettering on one image:
"R.J. Barber (engr) Retired Aug 30, 1968"

Thanks,

Ken Middlebrook

That's the "Lizard" on Ray's left in the first photo. Ray had a skin condition and was referred to as "Itchy Scratchy". Everyone had a "name" of some sort.

Is this The Del Monte? Looks like it could be with the 3003. Interesting collection of officials.

From left to right: 1st. Bays, TS; 4th from left, Bacher RFE; 6th from left, W M Jones, AS or S.

These are all "I think". Its been a long time.

Are you sure WMJ isn't on the far right? Three of those suits aren't properly dressed (because they aren't wearing a hat).

I think Nudge's count is off. 3rd from left is the retiring engineer. So perhaps 4th from left was the RFE and 6th from left is WMJ.

Best regards,

OK, I flunked counting. Sorry. On the far right is WMJ, the far left, Jim Bays and standing on Barbers left is RFE Bacher. (Again, I think so????) Off to counting class.

Son of a gun, that is Big Daddy on the far left -- completely missed him (seems I need more than counting class).

Hats only required when DJR was in the immediate vicinity.

Yah, forgot about that, but I understand Kriebel was hot about it too.

Looked R J Barber up in a '38-'39 Seniority Timebook. 7-7-23 date as a fireman. No engineers date. Barber was one number away from being the oldest engineman not promoted. Probably suffered some lean years during the depression. Ahead of him a guy named Felch had a July '19 date as a fireman, Oct '29 date as an Engineer, the guy behind him had an August '19 Fireman's date but was not promoted until July '36.
