Railroaders' Nostalgia > Yuma Crew Change/RogozaDate: 03/19/15 17:49 Yuma Crew Change/Rogoza Author: HardYellow Just drove for Arizona to southern California. UP has a new crew change in Yuma, it’s out at East Yard now. They have CTC’ed the two track through Yuma. They are in the process of double tracking west from Araz Jct. No more Rogoza (Frink) Siding. It’s all 2-MT now with a new crossover about three miles east of Rogoza, CP-Wister. Too bad the UP didn’t make it CP-Rogoza. The bridge at Salt Creek still reads Southern Pacific on the side. DT stops at East Thermal and starts again at Salton, about two miles east of Mortmar.

I think I'll investigate it and visit before the throngs of tourist move in. Nice picture of the downtown area. Do you have any of the rural areas?

Date: 03/20/15 21:39 Re: Yuma Crew Change/Rogoza Author: wa4umr I did a bit of searching for info about the place. You're not going to find it with Google Earth. Named for SP Conductor Carl Rogoza. August 3, 1981 8558 West, AVLAK Conductor Rogoza Engineer George August 5 8317 West, YUWJS (sugar beets) Conductor Rogoza Engineer Reynolds August 6 7320 East, DOWCY Conductor Rogoza Engineer Duffer August 8 8643 East, DOWCY Conductor Rogoza Engineer McAlpine August 10 3101 West, WCLAY Conductor Rogoza Engineer Cousino August 11 7666 East, LAAVT Conductor Rogoza Engineer Streeter Carl didn't work up the Coast very much, but I did find a trip he took to San Luis Obispo with engineer Jim Guerin on the LAWJY 12/22/81. I hope somebody saves the sign at least and maybe puts it in the museum at Perris or some such place. We went to a lot of trouble to errect it there and paid for it out of our own pockets.

I see no reason they (UPRR) couldn’t have made it CP-Rogoza and left Wister for the history books. But we all know...UP is UP and it is what it is.

was working on The Fillmore & Western Railway. Picture 1.) Carl punching tickets. Picture 2.) L to R. Mike Jarel, Steve Phares (me) and Carl Rogoza! Photos by Stan Garner Edited 1 time(s). That's great! Now I have to take back all my bad rap on the UP. Remember the old SP rule book’s definition of a station?
A place designated in the timetable by name. Maybe we need to get a team and repaint the station sign. Date: 04/07/15 01:07 Re: Yuma Crew Change/Rogoza Author: Geep HardYellow Wrote:

That sign is a true classic! Date: 04/20/15 09:36 Re: Yuma Crew Change/Rogoza Author: JGFuller UP also retained the name of another former SP great - which we appropriately named when CTC was installed on the Martinez Sub:
CTC 31.0 RV031 RV390 X OZOL 2MT (0.9) 30.1 RV030 ! X HOWARD (2.6) 27.5 RV027 X COSTA Before that, there was a DTC Block named "Howard". One of the Block Limit signs was presented to his family when Max died. He is not forgotten by the Old Heads. Date: 04/20/15 15:04 Re: Yuma Crew Change/Rogoza Author: SanJoaquinEngr Max Howard was one of the best and most respected Trainmasters on the SP... I had the prvildege to meet Ma on several ocassions . Max was always the last one in the room whenever Supt. Bill Jones called a staff meeting... RIP
