Railroaders' Nostalgia > "tehachcond" at workDate: 03/19/15 22:31 "tehachcond" at work Author: bradleymckay Thought it might be fun to take a look through Larry Fredeen's train registers from 1981 (the one's he "rescued" from an LA Taylor Yard dumpster) and see if I could find "tehachcond", BNB, at work. He's what I came up with from the "Coast and Valley" train registers:
May 13, 1981 9258 East, BKLAY, with engineer Carl Foss, arriving Taylor Yard with just 14 cars. May 15 8313 East, BRLAT, with engineer Jim Guerin. I find it quite interesting that 34 years later both are TO members. And that Jim is still working... May 21 9398 East, BKLAY, with engineer J.F. Jenkins. Train arrived Taylor Yard with all empties (99), 3088 tons and 5814 feet. May 23 9156 East, BKLAY, with Jenkins again. Arrived Taylor with 45 loads, 10 empties, 4754 tons, 3729 feet. June 9 9404 West, LABRF, with engineer Alex "Mad Dog" Woronovich, 52 loads, 1 empty, 2800 tons, 3930 feet, caboose 1661 for the trip to Bakersfield. July 26 8623 West, LABKY, with engineer J.J. Callanan, departed Taylor Yard 25 loads, 8 empties, 3252 tons, 1709 feet. July 29 8459 West, LABRF, with engineer Harold Chrisman, 43 loads, 1 empty, 2213 tons, 3014 feet. Went on duty at 10pm, departed 11:29pm. July 31 8533 East, BKLAY, with Chrisman again. Arrived Taylor Yard 33 loads, 14 empties. August 24 9230 West, LABKY, with Jenkins. 24 loads, 10 empties, 3270 tons, 1818 feet. You had 5 cars for Lancaster and 1 for Fleta in the train. August 31 9304 West, LABRF, with Chrisman. On duty LA 9:45pm, departed 11:14pm. No register for September, so on to October October 3 7301 West, 02-LABKY-03, with Chrisman. Nothing else listed. October 4 8503 East, BRLAT, with Chrisman. 57 loads, 7 empties, 5170 tons, 4688 feet. On duty Bakersfield 10:45am, off duty LA 10:40pm! October 17 9243 West, LABKY, with engineer Scott Hellickson, departed Taylor Yard 16 loads, 16 empties, 2024 tons, 2071 feet. No listings in November and December, so I decided to check the December 1981 "Yuma" register (for crews working LA - West Colton): December 1, 1981 8871 West, 01-WCLAY-01, with engineer H. E. Marcey, arrived Taylor Yard 28 loads, 3 empties, 2696 tons, 1768 feet. Dec. 2 9333 East, LAKCP, with engineer Lubisich (I'm guessing that's Mark), departed Taylor Yard 72 loads, 21 empties, 5667 tons, 5844 feet. Dec. 3 9283 East, LAHOT, with engineer Jim Escalante, departed LATC 54 loads, 1 empty, 4632 tons, 6124 feet. Of course Jim is with the SPH&TS. Dec.5 9125 East, LAPXY ("The Phoenix"), with engineer R.L. Stewart, 22 loads, 93 empties, 5089 tons, 6814 feet, with a set out and pick up at West Colton. Dec. 7 8533 West, 01-MBSMF-04 ("Memphis Blue Streak"), with engineer E. Gardner, 50 loads, 1 empty, 3430 tons, 4689 feet from WC to LA. Dec. 9 8340 West, BSMFF ("The Blue Streak"), with engineer Cranford, 32 loads, 1 empty, 2283 tons, 2809 feet arriving LA. Dec. 10 8515 West, CHLAF, with engineer Cousino, 55 loads, 1 empty, 3926 tons, but someone forgot to write down the train length... Dec. 12 3438 West, CHLAF, with engineer Seuferling, 78 loads, 1 empty, 6228 tons, 6304 feet (must have had a power swap at West Colton with a GP9 leading). Dec. 13 5325 West, WCOAY, with engineer J.R. Saunders, departed WC 62 loads, 28 empties, 6092 tons, 5675 feet. Dec. 15 2896 East, DOWCY, with engineer Jim Escalante, 8 loads, 91 empties, 4014 tons, 5746 feet. Dec. 15 Back to LA with the 9282 West, APLAA, still with Escalante, 29 loads, 2 empties. Dec. 20 8557 West, APLAA, with H.E. Marcey, 35 loads, 1 empty. Dec. 21 7650 East, LAHOT, with engineer M.R. Harding, departed LATC 38 loads, 2 empties, 3370 tons, 4509 feet. Dec. 21 Back to LA with the 4432 West, WCLAY, again with Harding, 50 loads, 49 empties, 7331 tons, 5928 feet. Dec. 22 9326 West, EULAY detoured via West Colton, with engineer T. Kline, 73 loads, 5 empties, 7240 tons, 5888 feet departing West Colton. Dec. 23 7304 East, LAKCP, with engineer Higgins, 42 loads, 65 empties, 6041 tons, 6399 feet. Pick up and set out at West Colton. Dec. 26 8311 East, LAAVT, with engineer F. Duncan, 75 loads, 1 empty, 5784 tons, 7057 feet. Dec. 28 9353 East, LAAVT, with engineer H.M. Terhune, 39 loads, 1 empty, 2840 tons, 3583 feet. Dec. 28 Back to LA with the 3100 West, WCLAY, with engineer Gardner, 42 loads, 20 empties, 5757 tons, 3462 feet. That's it! Now a question. Do you remember a conductor with the last name of Freshwater? Allen Date: 03/20/15 07:30 Re: "tehachcond" at work Author: ButteStBrakeman bradleymckay Wrote:

V SLOCONDR Date: 03/20/15 09:03 Re: "tehachcond" at work Author: tehachcond Allen, all those names definitely bring back a lot of memories. Thanks.
Chuck Freshwater was a conductor who worked mostly out of West Colton on the east end. He was involved in a head on collision at West Palm Springs, and I don't believe he ever worked again. This wreck also ended the career of Engineer Bob Palmer. Brian Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/20/15 13:24 by tehachcond. Chuck...worked with him on the East Pool to Yuma. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/21/15 08:28 by HardYellow. Date: 03/21/15 12:35 Re: "tehachcond" at work Author: CR3 On the L.A. to West Colton listing, I worked with every one of those guys as a fireman. Thanks for the memories.
