3rd Trick Blues,part two
Author: retcsxcfm

At the time I was working this shift Seddon Island (as it was know then) was mostly a weed
covered mosquito infested swamp.Besides the SAL elevator there was a scrap dealer (with
a steam loco of some sort) a building supply and a few other dealers but not much.Today
it is known as Harbor Island and is home to high rise condos, hotels and the mansion of
Derek Jeter plus others.
Google Seddon Island,Fl. and you can see  before and after pictures.
Now,back to my job. There was never much to do,so I spent most of my time sleeping. If
the yardmaster wanted something he would wake me up.One night he had me to go and
lace up a cut of cars.Nothing unusual about that, except I noticed that all of them were loaded.
Well, the elevator unloaded cars and returned the empties.I don't know what is going on so I
do my job. When I return (no radios back then) he tells me he made a mistake and told me
the wrong track.Nothing I like better than be wakened in the middle of the night for a little lacing
practice!
