Remembering the Rock Island Program in Temple, TX
Author: Eagle22

The South Central States Chapter of the Railroad and Locomotive Historical Society invites you to its January 30th program at 2 pm on the 3rd Floor of the Temple Library, located at 100 West Adams Avenue.  A previously recorded program of a talk given by retired railroad telegrapher, Mr. Norman Resor, will be shown.

Norman Resor worked as a telegraph operator for the Rock Island Railroad in the states of Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota for 40 + years having come from a family of railroad workers. He wrote a book, Steam and the Chattering Brass , to give a recollection of his railroad work and to describe the  hard times of living during the Great Depression and World War II.

He spent his retirement years with his wife in Temple.  Something he truly enjoyed was to share his recollections of the Rock Island and the railroad telegraph operator at the Temple Railroad Museum with all who inquired. No one left the Museum without witnessing  him copy and send “Railroad Morse”, sometimes it was with his long-time friend, Floyd Bumps. This program will give everyone that special moment visitors were able to witness in person at the Museum.
Please contact Jeremy at 254-773-4759 for additional information about this upcoming program or for general information about the Railway & Locomotive Railway Society.
