You Are There: B&OCT Chicago 1968-1969

...but no narration by Walter Cronkite

I have posted four audio recordings with still pictures in order to make them videos. The railroaders forum does not allow video attachments, so I put them over in Nostalgia & History.

First is a three segment recording of B&OCT 75th Street tower in the summer of 1968. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4000101

Second is a recording made in the B&OCT dispatchers office in November 1969 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3997924

There's some background to go with these:

http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,2130497,2130497#msg-2130497

Put all of this, the writing and the audio, together and you have almost as complete a story as can be (someday I'll do an illustrated play by play of the recordings) of handling a lot of traffic in what would today be considered blazing time.

Actually, it wouldn't be considered blazing time, it would be considered impossible. I still periodically sit in meetings and have experts tell me that what I used to participate in isn't possible (when I suggest disciplined operation at a level that doesn't come close to this). Mostly, I quit going to that kind of meeting.

(Someday, I hope I can find the 8 hours of 3rd trick McCook, with the IHB dispatcher on the speaker, in 1967.)

I have listened to these recordings several times over the years since they were posted, and still find them absolutely fascinating !
Thanks for posting.
