Eastern Railroad Discussion > Toronto Roundhouse open to public for a weekendDate: 04/14/06 10:54 Toronto Roundhouse open to public for a weekend Author: stuart I thought there might be some interest here in this event. i am planning to attend.
The Toronto Railway Historical Association is pleased to announce that the former CP John Street Roundhouse will be open to the public during Doors Open weekend on May 27 & 28, 2006. The doors won't just be open; you will be able to walk inside. The segment of the roundhouse open includes bays 17 through 21. These bays have the following equipment stored in them: * CP #7020, Alco S-2 built in 1944, owned by City of Toronto * CN #4803, GMD GP7, built in 1953, owned by City of Toronto * CP official car Cape Race, built 1929, owned by Upper Canada Railway Society * CP tourist sleeper Jackman, built 1931, owned by City of Toronto As those of you have visited the roundhouse during past Doors Opens are aware, the city has been fairly stringent about not allowing people inside. This change of heart is largely due to the efforts and hard work of TRHA vice-president Michael Guy, who has coordinated Doors Open events at the roundhouse for the past two years and is responsible for the miniature live steam operation that has animated the roundhouse during that weekend.
