Folkston and Beyond, 9/19/05
Author: SVTS

These are the pic's from a few days ago, when I went through Jesup and Folkston, Ga and Baldwin, Fl.

Shortly after arriving in Jesup, the headlights of a approaching southbound appear. I didn't like the view from the railfan platform, so I went on the other side of the tracks, and a much nicer grassy area.

A few minutes later, the gates come down in town, and CSX 4808 leads a empty hopper train into town and towards Folkston.

Not intending to chase 4808, we drove the 55 miles to Folkston and got some lunch. No sooner than we had parked at the railfan viewing area there, and 4808 showed up.

While 4808 was passing through, a northbound was waiting south of town to crossover and proceed towards Waycross. Within seconds of 4808 clearing the crossovers, and 7378 got the highball.

CSX 7378 passes in front of the railfan platform, assisted by two UP engines.

A few minutes pater and another northbound appeared, slowed by the previous train. I set up across the street to get the usuall downtown Folkston shot, only a southbound showed up first, CSX 370, with a intermodel.

Not long after the meet, and yet another northbound came through. For those not familiar with the area, the Folkston Railfan Platform is on the left, and the old Atlantic Coast Lines depot with assorted railroad signals and signs on display, to the right.

Sometimes, you just get lucky. Such was the case with Baldwin Fl. A few miles north of town, while heading south on US 301, I managed to catch a glimpse of the headend of a southbound. So once into town, I set up at the diamond at the north end of the Balwdin CSX Yard. A few minutes later and CSX 5002 creeps into town with what looked like a mixture of loaded coal hoppers and empty hoppers.

And lastly, a shot of the north end of the CSX Baldwin Fl Yard. Note the UP engine ready to take the lead of a northbound.

Thanks for looking and don't forget you can see more of my railroad photos at my website, http://www.msnusers.com/railart
