Bryan's post of the abused CR gondola reminded me of this...saw this on the Buckingham Branch (ex-C&O) somewhere near Gordonsville, VA.
Nice dent, but car was not derailed.

Yeah, that's damaged all right. I once saw some brand new aluminum coal porters that had stress dimples all up and down the sides... Definitely some kind of design flaw. The car company probably lost their shirt on that one.

I've got some shots of half a stack car sitting in Marion OH a couple weeks ago.
Also got shots of one in Michigan (Pullman I think) when CP hit a truck and
derailed about 9 years ago that ended up splitting a stack car in half

Would this be the car you saw in Marion, This one is from when S364 rear-ended Q116 near Bellefontaine last winter, taken about 3 weeks ago In Marion, By the way CSX 4617 was thru Sidney,OH last friday morning eastbound as a sole unit pulling a work train(crane)

could be. I don't remember if it was split or not, but it was definitely damaged :)
It was sitting on the south side of the yard, and photo accessible from a parking lot

ask steven (csx7054) about this one ;) and yes that was at gordonsville

Well as for that car @ gordonsville, it was smashed between 7 loaded rock cars and 3 loaded klockner cars with insuffecient handbrakes, Was there.. brakes held the cars after being bled off but when it come time to stop the cars... They just didnt hold that well... as you can see....
