Last of the DW&P is at hand !!
Author: CCMF

I stumbled into DWP 5908 at Aldershot, Ontario on Nov.19/05 and at the time I pretty much convinced myself it would be the last DW&P locomotive that I would photograph. It looks like this notion will be proven correct.

As of today, there is only one DW&P painted locomotive left on CN's roster. DWP 5905 is on UP train AMLGFR which arrived at North Platte, NE at 0358-24. Since New Year's Day, DWP 5902 5908 5911 have been retired along with GTW 5912 5922. The GTW SD40's are almost gone as well with only GTW 5913 (at Flint, MI) and GTW 5925 (on UP at Fort Worth, TX) remaining in service along with GTW 5900 which is in CN paint (at Memphis, TN).

What were the retirement dates for GTW5933 and DWP5908? I saw them on CN train 243 in Flint, Mich., three days ago.

GTW 5933 is an SD40-2 and should not be retired, I was referring only to straight SD40's.

DWP 5908 was retired yesterday 2006-01-24. Maybe it was dead when you saw it.

I thought there were a couple the DW&P units that got CN paint with DWP reporting marks on the battery box: are those gone too?

Hello Dave, DWP 5902, DWP 5904, and DWP 5907 were painted in the CN North America map scheme. The 5902 was retired last week, placed in storage at IC`s Woodcrest shop. The 5904 should still be running, and the 5907 was retired over a year ago. It was sold to NRE, running as NREX 5907. DWP 5902-5911 were all built as GTW units.

I don't understand.
Anyone got a good translation of this?

"If thay have not bin -2 like the IC SD40's the 6000's dont think there haning aroung but it has the NEW on them AC on it.
I was told all the power with AC there ceeping ? so now i dont know what to think. Richard"

Sad to see another one disappear. I guess it was lucky to have them last as long as they did. So far, they seem to be more aggressive with the DMIR unit repaints.

gtw1516 is correct ..... DWP 5904 in CN paint is alive as of 2006-01-25.

Also, none of the new CN power is AC. It is SD70M-2's and ES44DC's.

Here's a try, but I don't know what the "it" in this passage refers to.

"If they have not been Dash-2's like the IC SD40's -- the 6000's -- I don't think they're hanging around. But it [?] has the NEW air conditioning on it [?]. I was told, all the power with AC, they're keeping. So now I don't know what to think.
