Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSXT 6898Date: 04/09/06 06:44 CSXT 6898 Author: AmtrakPalmetto I caught one of CSXT's GP60s, #6898, in Tampa yesterday. This unit looks great in the new paint. Does anyone know why the windshield is at an angle from the middle?
Picture 1: Roster shot Picture 2: Angled windshield Date: 04/09/06 06:49 Re: CSXT 6898 Author: wlankenau It was an EMD demonstrator and the angled windshield was an attempt at making the unit a little more aerodynamic.
Date: 04/09/06 06:52 Re: CSXT 6898 Author: NSDash9 The CSX units are the former EMD GP60 demonstrators. The EMD GP59 and GP60 demo units were specially built with aerodynamic cabs with the front angled outward, all the front cab edges rounded, and the low short hood edges rounded more than normal. The idea was for the railroads to save money on fuel. However, EMD found that the added costs for building outweighed any potential savings, so the production units used the standard EMD cab and nose.

Later.... Jollymon Date: 04/10/06 12:21 Re: CSXT 6898 Author: csx5000 there are only 3 of them, one in csx YN# and the other 2 in EMD paint. the only thing is that CSX keeps them in fl.
