Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSXT 5972 Ex NS Ex CRDate: 01/04/07 15:14 CSXT 5972 Ex NS Ex CR Author: kyle This is one of the (corrected) 18 B-40 Dash 8's that CSX recently bought from NS. This one is slightly unique because it had the handshake logo on the nose (Union & Management)

Adam and Zach, what are the numbers of the units in your pics? Also if you don't mind, would you submit them to Dean Heacocks roster site if they are needed? http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/html/B40-8.html http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/html/Contributing.html http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/ Thanks, Kyle Date: 01/05/07 06:51 Re: CSXT 5972 Ex NS Ex CR Author: ConrailSD80MAC The one I caught was the 5962. Sure, I'll submit it.
Adam Date: 01/05/07 07:49 Re: CSXT 5972 Ex NS Ex CR Author: csx2112 Kyle,
Thanks for the plug! I received your pic the other day and hopefully we'll get some more now. Thanks. Dean J. Heacock http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos Date: 01/05/07 11:22 Re: CSXT 5972 Ex NS Ex CR Author: ohiopower Anybody know the reasoning behind CSX purchasing "old" power like this, all jokes aside about CSX and how they power their trains?
Date: 01/05/07 12:10 Re: CSXT 5972 Ex NS Ex CR Author: kyle Dean, the Thanks goes to you. You definately have "THE" CSX site, in my mind. It's great to be able to see the archived photos of units, before and after their paint changes...
OhioPower, we hashed this subject out pretty thoroughly in an older thread, just after they bought them. My theory was, and is, that many locals need 4 axle power to negotiate industry tracks. In Athens, GA (and elsewhere in the South)CSX predominantly uses GE power for locals (proximity to Waycross GA's shop which services GE's). With the retirement of so may B-30's and B-36's, there is an obvious void of GE 4 axle power. I know that these B-40s are being used for anything and everything, but our local's last 3 engines were B-40's...5951,5959, and now 5972. How many were ex SusieQ? Date: 01/05/07 20:53 Re: CSXT 5972 Ex NS Ex CR Author: csxt4617 NH2006 Wrote:
------------------------------------------------------- > How many were ex SusieQ? They have 20 that were originally Susie Q (5930-5949). The rest are all ex-Conrail's. I imagine CSX probably got a good price for them, and they match the rest of their "sisters" that CSX got in the Conrail split.
