Eastern Railroad Discussion > Hooray for the red, white and blue and yellow and blackDate: 09/24/08 12:57 Hooray for the red, white and blue and yellow and black Author: dozerman Was down in Kansas City, MO from Sunday til yesterday and was fortunate enough to capture 2 freshly painted units at Mid America car shops.
1. The Florida East Coast SD70M-2, "Rail America" unit. 2. Fresh out of the booth sits Iowa Interstate 507 and 509 ES44AC's. Also a note, they were firing up some of those EMLX ex UP SD90MACS for some reason. Maybe anyone local in KC on the list can answer as to why? Randy Allard Date: 09/24/08 15:53 SD9043MAC-H2 Author: mc5725 I've always wondered why they don't repower those SD90s with 710 engines, effectively turning them into SD90/43MACs, which don't have many of the problems that the straight 90s do...

Look for them to head north tomorrow. There are still 3 in primer sitting in the mix of all of the SD90MAC's at Mid America.
Date: 09/24/08 17:55 Re: Hooray for the red, white and blue and yellow and b Author: dozerman What is the reason for all of the EMLX SD90MACS at Mid America? I had heard from someone they were going to scrap and keep what parts they could for using them on the SD70ACE's, but like I said earlier, they fired up at least 2, maybe 3 while I was there yesterday.

The EMLX SD90MAC-H's are NOT going to scrap. The 21 Phase I SD90MAC-H's (the ones with the same cab and nose as the SD9043MAC's) which were owned by UP are the units which are being scrapped. These particular units are numbered UP #8911-8931. Bryan Jones Brooks, KY Bryan's Train Photos Date: 09/25/08 23:35 Re: SD9043MAC-H2 Author: SantaFeRuss mc5725 Wrote:

That's probably why those UP units are being scrapped. SantaFeRuss |
