Past and Present - Renovo, PA 1956 and 2008
Author: AndrewBlaszczyk

I was lucky enough to team up with John Dziobko Jr. (www.godfatherrails.com) for the contest this year. All photos were used with permission.

In the first image, a few leased Reading T1s sit along PRR power by the coal tower in the Renovo, PA engine facility on August 18, 1956.
RP Caption: "When PRR returned these engines to the Reading in '57 they were much worse for the wear thanks to poor coal and virtually no maintenence during their stint on the Standard Railroad of the World. Most of the nine Reading T1s PRR leased in 1956 and stationed on the Susquehanna Div. were at the top of the list for scrapping in '57, only 2128 lasted until 1960."

My photo was taken at almost the very same angle on May 26, 2008 showing a much different and depressing scene. The town isn't bustling anymore, most of the tracks are gone and of course, the PRR and Reading giants have been scrapped.

Well, at least the coaling tower seems washed off by the years of rain - soot.

Nice job Andrew.

One of the best Past and Presents I've seen.
Nice side by side, too.
