Rail trail near Ackermanville, PA
Author: birdman

I was on route 191 near Ackermanville, PA on Tuesday and noticed what was obviously an old railroad bed converted to a paved recreational trail. The trail passed under route 191 south of Ackermanville and appeared to follow a small creek north toward Pen Argyl, PA. Was this the route of the Lehigh and New England to Martins Creek, PA or was this ex-right-of-way that of a different railroad. i.e., the Lackawanna?

That most likely would have been the DL&W branch from Martins Creek Jct to W Bangor, Roseta & PenArgyl in the slate belt(where it connected into the main yards of the L&NE) then it turned south to Belfast and west through the cement belt via Nazareth and Bath ending with a connection to shortline Northampton & Bath.
