Eastern Railroad Discussion > New CSX ES44AH #951 with new LogoDate: 10/23/11 11:25 New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: CSX4838 Stopped by the GE plant in Erie today and happened to see one of the New CSX unit # 951 setting inside the fence. We can confirm now that these units do have the box car logo on the front, side and back of the unit. There was no photoshopping done to this photo only standing on top of my truck with my 400-800mm Nikon zoom lense. Sorry I could not get a better angle, but was the best I could do provided the location

Date: 10/23/11 13:01 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: RF-NOCOM I don't understand what this obsession with switching the door location to the engineers side is. One would think that they would want to keep the door on the conductors side so that it makes it easier to get off on the Engineers side. One, so that they can always see you when you get on or off (a good practice, and it's where the angle cock is). Two, usually the current of traffic would place the conductors side on the "hot" side. Rules prohibit the dismounting of personnel on the hot side. The SD70's where on the wrong side and I have noticed that GE also seems to be switching sides now. I first noticed this with a new BNSF order.

Date: 10/23/11 14:20 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: SCL1517 I think I read that the door relocation was in response to still more FRA crashworthiness regs. As for the new logo, here's my unsolicited two cents: "How Tomorrow Moves" would look great situated between the logo and the back of the cab (may not work on fireman's side), and the nose logo looks bizarre compared to the way this logo is usually presented.
Of course, I also think "Pulling For You!" would look perfect under the cab. ;-) Date: 10/23/11 14:22 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: SCL1517 csxdispatcher Wrote:

It really is going to look like, well...something on those darn gensets with their already microscopic logos. Date: 10/23/11 14:52 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: DoctorThunder Please don't put how tomorrow moves on them. I have never liked any of the Union Pacific slogans on things and I never liked Conrail Quality either.
Just seems so cheesey. Date: 10/23/11 14:58 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: RF-NOCOM I have a feeling that IF they do put "How Tomorrow Moves" on them the crews would be adding slogans to it. Much like crews add things to the NS horse logo.

Date: 10/23/11 15:38 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: Airchime_30109 That looks HIDEOUS!!!! 1) The actual "CSX" text inside the logo is not drawn correctly, just like on the website, but the logos being applied to locomotives for the past ten years have been the standard "CSX" graphic. When I heard GE was doing the artwork for these, I figured, "Hey, they know how to draw logos and paint locos....it will look alright". Boy was I wrong.
2) Nose logos are way too tiny, front and rear. It would look MUCH better if they used a standard 'CSX' graphic but in a smaller size (ala F40PH or MP15) to go inside the boxcar on the hood...that would look great. Standard CSX logo on both noses would be most aesthetically pleasing because that boxcar logo on the nose just looks out of place. If they dumped the black numberboards and installed white ones, that would look much better too. I never understood why half of NSs newer ES44AC units have black number boards, and half of them have white. Just when I thought GEVOs couldn't be made to look any worse.... -- Nick O'Dell Date: 10/23/11 15:53 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: Poker2662 It looks nice, but I think the window arrangement makes it look odd, and I think the logo on the sides should be bigger.

Then again, the SD40-3's have black boards, so who knows? Date: 10/23/11 17:33 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: K8DTI Nice to see something different, but it looks like a broken HTML tag or Braille. Still, it is nice to see a change!
Date: 10/23/11 17:44 Re: New CSX ES44AH #951 with new Logo Author: CR6079 The reason for the change from white to black numberboards is the lighting they use for them, they changed over to an LED type light and on a white numberboard it drowns out the number and makes it hard to see.

Not to mention, CSX is installing LED number boards and step lights all across the system.
