Last trip of the year to Cornwells
Author: jonjonjonjon

Another of my periodic visits to the Cornwells Heights station (Betw. Trenton and Philly on the NEC) finds the east (north)bound platform and shed torn up for reconstruction, so the only vantage point was from the handicap ramp. Will be interesting to see how it looks when it's done.

Caught 1 Acela, 1 regional and a Keystone in 25min.

The Acela had both pantographs up - is that a rare thing?

No the Acela always runs with one pantograph up on both power cars, the way it is in the video is correct.

Maybe it doesn't work with the Caps Lock on.

Thanks for posting. I think your first train is also a Keystone service - five cars with no cafe is a typical Keystone consist, while regionals run about eight cars with an Amcafe. Its a little hard to tell if the final car is an ex-Metroliner cab, but if you look closely it appears to be. Regarding the Acela, the power cars are independent units, each with their own electrical pickup. Under normal conditions, both should be operational, so one pantagraph up per unit is correct. During snowstorms Amtrak will shutdown the rear unit as it tends to ingest snow, in which case the trainset would only have one pan raised.

back in the day ... the G's were given dbl pan up orders in snowstorms with the theory being the front pan clears the trolley wire of snow while the rear one serves as the power collector

If you are having problems viewing the video here, try at my YouTube channel youtube.com/trainsByJon and see if you are having the same issue. THe video could have been mangled in transit.
