Eastern Railroad Discussion > New C&O (CSX) divisionsDate: 11/07/00 11:10 New C&O (CSX) divisions Author: cameraman I have noticed new signs listing the Alleghany Div. on the ex-C&O James River sub. accross Virginia.
Can anyone give a date this change came about and some limits of the divisions accross Virginia and West Virginia? Date: 11/07/00 15:12 RE: New C&O (CSX) divisions Author: galen74 From what I understandÂ… this is essential the "old" C&O Business Unit renamed after the Conrail merger. Not to be confused with the Alleghany Subdivision which stretches from Clifton Forge, VA to Hinton, West Virginia. Certainly correct me if I am wrong. I have not seen a new CSX timetable since the change.

This division includes the old C&O lines east of Hinton, WV, which are part of the Division's Eastern District territory. The subdivisions included are the: Allegheny, James River, Newport News Terminal, North Mountain, Peninsula, Piedmont, Rivanna and the Washington subdivision. The former Cumberland Coal Business Unit made up of the B&O and WM lines in northern West Virginia, western Maryland and western Ohio now forms the Western District of the Allegheny Division. The subdivisions included are the: Bridgeport, Cowen, Fairmont, Georges Creek, Kingwood, Marietta, Mountain, Ohio River, Pickens, Pomeroy, Shortline, Stony River and the Thomas subdivision. Although I'm not entirely certain, I believe the C&O BU was broken up between the C&O and Appalachian Division. Hope that helps, Matt |
