Eastern Railroad Discussion > C&O 2716 on the move southDate: 02/24/01 04:58 C&O 2716 on the move south Author: halfmoonharold It's not often you walk out the door and look up to see a steam engine rolling past. Watch for 052 special to head south on the New Castle today. Consist is NS 2846-boxcar-C&O 2716-Railbox car. Called at 600am. They'll back out of the yard at NE, then pull toward Mike Tower and Hugo to head south. Snake track is apparently too sharp a curve. Nasty ice storm should end as it warms up today. Waybill said it was going to Toledo, but apparently via Cincinnati/CSX.
Date: 02/24/01 05:59 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: IORY_GP40 Hey halfmoon, is I&O 84 still sitting there in Ft. Wayne? I've gotten a couple of reports that 84 is going to the CERA at Kokomo so that I&O 251 can get some shop work.
Thanks, Dave Date: 02/24/01 08:51 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: skunk I believe is 84 left a few days ago or has moved. Of course, halfmoon can answer that better than I can.
Date: 02/24/01 11:23 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: eashock Thanks for the heads up, halfmoon! He passed Muncie at 12:50, taking his own sweet time about things. He stopped in Royerton because of a dead battery on the ET, which they were unable to replace. The trainmaster hopped aboard and they're doing 30 MPH down the NCD. Bob_J and I got plenty of photographs, including the train stopped at Jefferson St. to wait for 175 then a CSX Eastbound to pass.
Also, the railfans were out in force today! I don't know if they heard about the steamer, or if they were just in town for the Muncie and Western train show. Needless to say, the railroads did not disappoint the fans today! -Eric Shock Date: 02/24/01 13:25 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: Throttle_JCKY Glad to hear plenty of pics where had. I bet the train show did help the turnout at Muncie. Wasn't bad either that the steamer was moving through.
Date: 02/24/01 14:17 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: halfmoonharold 052 went by 7-Mile at 445pm. That worked out great that the folks at the train show got to see the 2716. I haven't noticed whether the I&O 84 has moved or not. No way to trace it in the computer.
Date: 02/24/01 15:40 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: gp20 2716 arrive at NS Gest street right before 6pm
steve Date: 02/24/01 16:09 Thanks HMH! Author: k8dti Managed to catch him at Winton Place and twice at Hopple St. Thanks for the heads up Harold!!!
Date: 02/24/01 16:11 RE: Thanks HMH! and K8DTI Author: Deshlerrailfan When will it head North?
Date: 02/24/01 16:26 RE: I'm Confused Author: HoosierVirg Okay, I'm confused, why is it going north, I thought it was going back to Kentucky? Have a good and safe day.
Date: 02/24/01 16:26 RE: Thanks HMH! and K8DTI Author: warbonnet little late, but it cleared the west end of crescentville at exactly 5:24 with a 10 mph speed restriction through the turnout onto the siding. Also caught it a winton place while it got the highball.
Date: 02/24/01 16:31 RE: I'm Confused Author: Deshlerrailfan See HMH's first post. Or is there a Toledo in KY?
Date: 02/24/01 16:51 RE: I'm Confused Author: HoosierVirg I did see that in the first post and that is why I am confused. I thought it would be going back to the Kentucky Railroad Museum in New Haven, Kentucky. Where would it be going up north, appreciate any information on that? Have a good and safe day.
Date: 02/24/01 17:12 RE: I'm Confused Author: skunk Yes, I think we are all confused. It was on lease to the FWRHS. I'm sure someone there would know. Maybe it's going to a new owner or lesse?
Date: 02/24/01 17:26 To CSX and KRM Author: K8DTI The group riding the engine said interchange with CSXT in Cincinnati then to Lebanon Jct. KY and KRM's railroad. Anyone have any specifics?
Date: 02/24/01 18:09 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: Deshlerrailfan Was she under her own power or in tow? Any other details on the movement.
DRF Date: 02/24/01 19:02 RE: C&O 2716 on the move south Author: Throttle_JCKY The waybill on the engine showed Toledo (it has to be a misprint). The engine was at New Haven, IN. then it was moved for the Fort Wayne HS to NS East Wayne yards, it was then billed out and moved to Cincinnati over the NS New Castle District. It was put in between two idler cars (box cars) for safety spacing purposes. The 2716 will then be forwarded to CSX (if they except interchange, which I am sure they will, since it has made it 193 miles to Gest St. Yard in Cincinnati). Like K8DTI said it will go to CSX to be interchanged with the KRM at New Haven, KY. The engine is headed south (hasn't headed north at any point so far). She "2716" isn't under power, she is being pulled by a GP38 "2800" series. Hope that helps a little.
Date: 02/24/01 19:36 Muy interesante! Author: k8dti It is tracing in the NS computer as CO2716
Date: 02/24/01 20:02 RE: Thanks Throttle/k8dti Author: HoosierVirg Thanks, that is what I thought was suppose to happen, would appreciate any more information on departure so I can head to Short Line and try to see her. Have a good and safe day.
