Eastern Railroad Discussion > sacrilage in Ft WayneDate: 03/13/01 15:28 sacrilage in Ft Wayne Author: halfmoonharold Took a swing by the yard this afternoon, and noticed that, unless my eyes play tricks on me, former NW units 4100,4120,4129, and 1650 have all lost their Leslie S5T horns and have been fitted with dreaded Nathan P5's. I can verify the 1650, having heard it. This does not bode well for the future of the lovely Leslie 5-chime's.
Also, saw cabs NW 518578, NW 555066, and NS 555555. The latter's damages (as reported here previously) must not have been too serious, as it appears to be in service. The infamous "Yellow Cab" of Ft Wayne was not around, but it was here the other night. Date: 03/13/01 20:30 RE: sacrilage in Ft Wayne Author: IORY_GP40 Did I&O 84 finally depart? Did it go to the CERA at Kokomo as was anticipated?
Thanks, Dave Date: 03/13/01 23:13 RE: sacrilage in Ft Wayne Author: halfmoonharold The I&O 84 has been gone for a while, you might try searching, someone reported its new location, but I can't remember.
Also, I forgot to mention earlier, former CR SD40-2 6447 was repainted to NS 3381, but they used large CR-style cab numbers. Anyone see any others like this? Date: 03/14/01 06:10 RE: sacrilage in Ft Wayne Author: cr6485 I&O 84 was in Kokomo as of 2/25, along with the two I&O GP35s. Don't know if they've shipped either 35 out for rebuild as has been rumored.

I've seen a couple. There's a GP38-2 (5354 or something like that) that's been running to/from the Chicago area with CR style numbers on the cab. I've also seen a few of the new -9's with skinny numbers that almost look like Helvetica (similar to the style CSX uses) instead of the standard style NS uses. |
