Eastern Railroad Discussion > Another C39-8 DayDate: 11/15/12 10:20 Another C39-8 Day Author: RDG630 I have been lucky to have good weather the last two times I photographed the PN local between Lansdale and Telford, Pa. Can't get enough of those GE C39-8's, closest sounding thing to an Alco C636. Todays chase.
PN 8211 at Meetinghouse Road east of Telford making a set out Third photo crossing Washington Ave in Telford. Date: 11/15/12 10:24 Re: Another C39-8 Day Author: RDG630 PN 8212 comes around the Telford Curve

Last in Hatfield, Pa. Note walking path to left which was the Lehigh Valley Transit Company's Philadelphia to Allentown route. Date: 11/15/12 10:45 Re: Another C39-8 Day Author: toledopatch When they get these things repainted like that ex-CN SD40-2W, I'll make prompt travel plans to visit. Until then, not so much.

Date: 11/15/12 13:41 Re: Another C39-8 Day Author: garr Did those locos ever have a nickname? If not, those side views make me think Bulldogs would be appropriate.

Camels is the most common nickname I've ever heard for early Dash-8s, because of the big hump behind the cab. Bulldog tends to be applied to EMD cab units. Date: 11/15/12 17:59 Re: Another C39-8 Day Author: Mautner Those are cool units, but they dont seem like ideal shortline units.Have to be hard on the track and burn alot of fuel.

Broad Street Souderton Town? Didn't there used to be concrete or iron railings across that street crossing? I sorta remember having to drive down the hill to go under the tracks through the bridge in the previous photo? Gonut Date: 11/15/12 23:31 Re: Another C39-8 Day Author: coach They've got a hump like a Brahma bull.
Beasts! Date: 11/16/12 04:18 Re: Another C39-8 Day Author: RDG630 From 1927 till mid 1970's the crossing was blocked off and traffic had to use the Chestnut Street underpass. As train traffic decreased and auto traffic increased pressure arose to reopen the crossing.
