"Solid Clod" FGE Reefer
Author: AthearnModelTrains

We’re in search of walk-around prototype images for the unique “Solid Clod” 57’ FGE Mechanical Reefer. The only photo we’ve been able to find was taken from a distance in a snowstorm. As we’ve researched other “Solid Cold” reefers, we’ve noticed the data can be different from car to car and we want to be sure our future model is as accurate as possible. Please e-mail swilson@horizonhobby.com if you have access to pictures of this special freight car. We appreciate your help.

Forgive me if I am missing something here.

I have seen a lot of 'Solid Gold' reefers in the past.

Out of the fleet of Solid Cold and Solid Gold boxcars, there was one that someone messed up on when painting, whether intentional or unintentional, and on the side of it, it said Solid Clod.

Unfortunately, I don't have a pic of it.

Athearn did make a HO model of the "Solid Clod" FGE reefer boxcar #12646...white with the "Solid Clod" in blue lettering.

I remember an SD40-2 with "FAMILY SYSTEM LINES" on it, brand new.

Brings to mind the "NW&" coal hopper and the Family Lines equipment that transposed Clinchfield for Georgia, as well as the SBD painted Bethlehem 4 bay coal hopper with the red over yellow logo (opposite of standard).

And I've got a photo of an SFBN gondola I saw in Seattle in 2004, too....

I wish I had taken a picture of that "We can hand it" UP boxcar.

I was going to ask if railroad paint shops are equipped with spelling & grammar checks, but they would not have worked for "Solid Clod!" :)
