NS may get a heavy shipper in Bethlehem PA
Author: Lackawanna484

Lehigh Heavy Forge is a custom metal processing facility in Bethlehem PA. It's been selected as a key supplier for a project to factory build small atomic reactor units which can be shipped by rail and installed in local sites. A key attribute of these reactor units is the necessity to ship the assembled pieces by rail. Lehigh Forge occupies a portion of the former Bethlehem Steel site, adjacent to the Norfolk Southern and former PB&NE lines.

Babcock & Wilcox selected LHF due to its extensive history with large, complex castings greater than 100 tons. It's interesting that many closed coal fired small electric plants along the NS lines could be sites for the new mini-reactors.

The finished products would be about 83 feet long (high, when installed) and produce under 200 MW of electricity with a four year charge.

That sounds like good news for NS.
