Just an update for those curious:
The Lehigh Valley heritage unit (NS 8104) is still on the 749 empty coal train to Shay Mine in Carlinville, IL. Unfortunately, due to a NS coal train with CN power (437 12) loading at Shay yesterday and then a UP coal train (UP CSQS1) loading at Shay today, 749 is still hanging on the "Loop" near 22nd Street in Decatur, IL crewless. So it won't be moving for a while.

If there are no more coal trains after that UP one, 8104 will move towards the mine this evening, load overnight, then come back to Decatur tomorrow morning and hit it east for Peru, IN, Fort Wayne, IN, etc.

Is the loading track (or tracks) at the mine a loop or a run-around?

I believe it is a loop...if that is the case she would be leading. What will be the loaded coal train symbol coming back?

I'm not entirely sure on that at this moment. My best guess is that it's a loop.

ID coming back will be a 748.

It appears from Bing Maps that it is a Loop loader. Please keep us updated, as 748 is bound for the Belmont Plant near Charlotte, NC.

A few weeks ago we went thru this and I noted that Shay #1, Carlinville IL has a loop track and that loaded it might be a 750 rather than 748

749 08 arrived at Shay Mine 2200 hours

Everytime I've noticed this train it's been a 749/748.

749 is now 748 14 out of Shay Mine, should be east of Decatur right now. 8104's leading. Heads up Indiana area.

Reported to have departed Peru, IN to head to Bellevue, OH.

Assuming no significant delays en route and a prompt recrew at Bellevue, it could be in Columbus by sunrise.

Not that it much matters, but that's not the right date for that train.
