MGA 8025 Bailey Helper
Author: jmbreitigan

I got a HU last night from NSHorseheadSD70 that NS MGA #8025 could be one of the helpers at the Bailey mine located north of Waynesburg, PA. I had been down there twice this week to see the Central of Georgia as one of the helpers. I thought about it and wondered what if 8101 and 8025 were helpers today. I figured it was a nice day and drove down with my wife. Not long after we arrived we caught 8025 around 08:45 helping shove N73 up out of the Bailey mine. I waited for the helpers to come back and took a few shots and left to explore a little. As we approached the village of Sycamore along route 18 south I noticed a blue cloud of smoke in the early morning air. I figured some people had their wood burners going. The closer I got to Sycamore the worse it got. Then I got a whiff, that is not wood smoke, that is diesel smoke and lots of it. I was able to locate the source. Through the trees I could see a CSX locomotive smoking away on the siding at Sycamore. I told my wife to grab the camera and I would slow down and to snap a few pictures. I put a lot of pressure on her as she does not take too many pictures. She was worried the shot did not come out but I told her she took the best shot of the day : )

1. Bailey helpers 8025 & 8016 shove N73 with 115 cars up from the Bailey mine in early morning light just short of mile 11.66.

2 & 3. Bailey helpers 8025 & 8016 returning to the Bailey mine at mile 11.66.

One more .................

4. The smoking CSX unit on the Sycamore siding that my wife took a picture of. Kind of obscured but you can see the smoke.

Thanks for looking, John

Thanks Alan, I have caught 8025 on the Waynesburg Southern branch, Manor branch and the Mon line. Only branch left in the area is the Loveridge.
