First RailAmerica locomotive painted in G&W colors
Author: K8CNW

This afternoon Norfolk Southern delivered CIND 2001 to Central Railroad of Indiana. The locomotive was brought to Indiana & Ohio's locomotive shop in Norwood, OH where all CIND locomotives are maintained. This is the first locomotive painted in G&W colors for a (former) RailAmerica road. All photos taken on private property with permission.

Looks great. I can't wait to see one painted up in Canada. We have several Rail-America companies here.

They can't take and paint my SP speed lettered SD45T-2's out here in Kansas!

Looks great! I wonder if the I&OC Logan Sub (ex - C&O Athens Sub) will be getting a genset under G&W. they go from trundling one car 15 miles to Logan to taking 20 or more cars to Columbus. Seems like a perfect use for a genset.

I was hoping for a new scheme. Something like a red and orange. Similar to what Railtex chose for the Indiana and Ohio GP40s.

Patch not an Espee fan? Or Patch not a fan of patched units?

Is that the pole and ladder for the old tilt signal for the PRR-C&O crossing in the background?

Nope, not a fan of patched units (and the name thing has nothing to do with it....). Though in that regard, there are other engines on both RA roads and GWI properties that look worse than those ex-Espees, such as the ex-CR GP38s on B&P and SD40s on NECR.

About the only way the Logan Sub will get a genset is if they can con the state of Ohio into paying for it or they send over the one the Ohio Central uses in Newark.

Supposedly the SD40-2 that the I&O and CFE are painted and lettered. The I&O is also supposed to get two of the Ohio Central's SD40t-2s in G&W paint.

Yes it is Mark. It was taken out around 2002 or so with a sewer project that crosses the I&O there.

There's two great shots of the PRR-C&O diamond still in place in PRR Lines West Vol 15.

Yes. I thought I had a pic of the signal with the blade in place but I can't find one.

That's a really nice book. Great pics around central Ohio and elsewhere. I faintly remember that signal shanty at Maple St. crossing in Lancaster in the two photos in the book but never remember seeing the two signals pictured. By the time I was snapping pics, it was one red and silver tilting target with red marker lights. Oops - I just figured you meant PRR Facilities In Color Vol 15. Is that the one? This is straying a bit but also that shot of Circleville in 1967 at the diamond with the tower still in place and a hi-nose C628 (#1123) leading a train around the curve, about to cross South Court St., smoking like a Century could - is priceless to me also. Also- did you notice Mark on page 116 of the book in the pic of the train coming thru Bremen out of Lancaster off the Morrow Sub (train ZB-2 ) that leading the pack of units are 2 SD40's? (!). Off the Morrow with those horrendous track conditions! Lol I knew SD's roamed the WV Secondary until outlawed in the early 1970's due to poor track - but I never heard of SD's on the Morrow- it made the WV Sec look like the Middle Division. Well almost.

CIND has a second one of these coming - CIND 2002. The pair where paid for by a Federal Clean Air Act grant administered by OKI (Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Board of Governments). As such, both of these units are required to spend something like 85% of their operating time on CIND, so dont look for them to roam the CFE/IORY/CIND combined system like the other units seem to do. Last I heard they plan on deploying these units on the daily "Honda Job" that pulls the Honda Civic/Acura ILX assembly plant in Greensburg. Supposedly these two computer aided machines will handle a 60 car empty trilevel train up Guilford Hill unaided....something the Red, White, and Blue slippery footed GP50s can't seem to do.

Something for Mr Patch's interest, story is that there will likely be some serious power swapping around as GW absorbs RA. Once the dust settles and power lands in its new home, goal is to have ALL units painted orange within 5 years. The patched SP, BN, CR, UP/FEC, that survive on the new roster will be some of the first to see paint, so your nemesis's days are numbered.
