Are the CSX/CN trains that will use this trackage rights agreement known at this time? I am assuming that this is to bypass some of the Chicago congestion.

Any CSX traffic from CSX to BRC Clearing will be routed over the Eldson sub once the connections at Vermont St and Thorton Jct are put in. Also, traffic to Bedford Park will go via the Eldson sub as well.

And the Vermont St connection would be just north of Blue Island Crossing, right?

Correct.

Does this revive the talk of a connection at Wellsboro IN between the CN & CSX where (if I remember right) a westbound CSX could go west on the CN?

Once a week I work at 75th and Racine in Chicago, right next to the NS/BRC main. I do see CSX trains (manifests) on that route. If I understand correctly, these would be (some) of the trains using the GTW? And the would access it near 75th and Central Park Ave.?

One of the first immediate changes that will occur once CSX takes over will be the closing of GTW Tower at BI Junction. Since the CN operators already use the CSX Dispatching system to control the interlocking, the location can be remoted almost immediately.

Once the connections at Vermont - 127th Street are finished, some of the following changes will be seen:
Y130 - the daily Barr Yard to Clearing transfer run which currently runs north on the BI Sub to 75th Street, runs around their train and then delivers to the BRC will now have a direct run from Barr to Clearing - a 12 hour job reduced to 4.
The CSX manifest trains at originate at the BRC to go east (Q386, Q388) and operate either over the UP to Dolton or the NS to Pine Junction will run direct to Barr Yard and east. The same for trains like Q500, Q389 & Q393 which come from the east for the BRC.

The second phase of the Elsdon SD will be the building of the connection at Thornton Junction with the UP. This work has not started yet. This routing will allow the bypassing of very congested Dolton / Yard Center section of the UP. Some intermodal trains will operate this route and some manifest trains will two, but I expect that other trains will continue to use their current traditional routes.

The Elsdon SD takeover by CSX will transform how CSX operates in Chicago. It will allow CSX to get off or drasticly reduce expensive trackage rights on the NS between CP501 & CP509 and the UP between Dolton and 80th Street and maintain more control of their operation.

A lot of work still needs to be done for CSX to take full advantage of the Elsdon SD.

The above reply has great info... but does anyone have a relevant map they can upload? I have some Chicago maps but they don't include all junction and subdivision names.

Download their STB application and you'll find detail maps on pages 58, 153, 155 - 156, 197 - 199, 201 - 233 and more.

If i understand this correctly most changes are occurring west of blue island? There will be no reductions in traffic in Dolton until the Thornton connection is built?

There was talk of a connection way out east in indiana where the CN(GTW) crossed the CSX(b&o) mainline and csx moving some trains over the CN to the same endpoints as this deal allows but bypassing Dolton and Pine jct completely. Has any more come of that?

Correct. In fact, once the Vermont St connection is built, Dolton will see an INCREASE of traffic, as the trains that went to the BRC over the NS will now go through Dolton.

Is this for CSX trains to and from the Monon line at Munster or will CSX trains take the GTW at Wellsboro, IN?

Wellsboro to Munster is not included in this at all.

I realize in this particular action that the line from Wellsboro to Munster is not included but if CSX is going to use the line from Munster to Elsdon, IL, then what CSX traffic is going to operate over this segment?

Traffic off the old Monon to BRC Clearing Yard. Dan

I would think the signal system needs to be changed on the GTW between these points because it's D251 instead of TCS.
