Ownership sign on CSX loco
Author: OCtrainguy

I saw this sign on a CSX GP38-2. This locomotive is a former Conrail unit. This locomotive was on the Conrail Shared Assets Southern Secondary line. This line is the former CNJ Southern Division Main Line. Photo was taken in Lakehurst, NJ last month.

Such signs are not unusual on locomotives and rolling stock, although usually the new ones refer to the "Surface Transportation Board" instead of the ICC.

That sign is on a lot of equipment. On most of CSX's engines, it's covered with filth.

The funny thing is it says Interstate Commerce Commision and not S.T.B.

The ICC was disbanded how many years ago?

you will find similar ownership infomation stenciled on many freight cars - seem to be most prevalent on private covered hoppers and the like.

I noticed this sign on the Wisconcin Central locos when I was in Sault Ste.Marie this fall.Must be related to the merger.

Just Like Your Car Loan

When you borrow money to buy an automobile, the lending institution has a "Security Interest" (Lien) on the vehicle, and can repossess it if you fail to pay.

The plaque on Railroad equipment is simply a required statement that there is an outstanding balance on the money borrowed to buy the unit
