It was damaged a while back (around October of 2013) after hitting a downed tree. Is that the incident you speak of, or was there something else that happened more recently?

I heard there was a problem at Bailey Mine, but you can probably tell more from the picture you've seen than the rest of us are getting from the grapevine.

Yes, this is different from the tree strike in North Carolina.

The upper cabinet on engineers side right behind the door is busted out. Small blotch of blue paint is missing along with some metal. Sun shade has a scratch across it like it was drug against something. .

Yup, sounds like something whacked it at the mine.

That looks like a fairly easy repair.....Juniata has dealt with much worse in terms of wreck repairs....

These locos are not car show 'trailer queens' like a classic car that doesn't go anywhere under its own power for fear of getting scratched or dinged....

One scenario that begs a question would be if one of the Heritage locomotives was involved in a derailment or collision that damages the unit beyond repair, would NS repaint another locomotive into that same Heritage scheme, or would that Heritage unit/paintscheme simply be stricken from the roster.....Dave W

In most cases, I would think they would just take the locomotive off the roster, sing "Nearer my God to thee" at its funeral (scrapping) and that would be it.

However, we're talking about Wick Moorman here. Being so soon after the Heritage unit's inception, he'll probably slap N&W blue on another locomotive.

Regardless of what paint they wear, locomotives are tools to be used, and along they way they're going to get scratched, dented, dinged etc. Much ado about nothing. (of course that could just as well be said about the heritage units in general)

Oh! Here I always thought the railroads were conceived only for the entertainment of the Foamers?
Thanks for clarifying that point. I'm still hoping to spot my second Heritage unit. I saw one, at night, now if I could just catch the other 19...
