U.S. Army GP40PH-2 #4671 trails on CSX Q364 in Marion yesterday. Any info on where this came from and where it is going is greatly appreciated.

I don't know but Army locomotives have certainly advanced from the days of little GE's, Whitcombs, and Davenports!

On March 23, the same unit rolled east across the UP in Kansas, which makes me think that it was rebuilt in Boise.

Can't help ya past that.

Most Likely it was Rebuilt at the Army's Shop at Hill AFB, UT

And it had been seen there when this unit was acquired by the Army

Might be this one . . .

Originally - BO 3697(GP40) to CSX 6513(GP40) to VRE V22(GP40PH-2) to USAX 4671(GP40PH-2)

Found the info here:

And might be going to Ft. Hood . . . Think I read that someplace.

I had heard a Rumor that the DODX was thinking about starting to do research on their Rail Garrison Trains again, so HEP would be needed

I think I saw this unit in Ogden, Utah on March 19.

are you allowed to take photos of u.s. army equipment? I got in trouble shooting tracks outside a very tiny u.s. army reserve post.

yes. if you're trespassing to do so, that might be a different situation. But that's a trespassing problem not a photography problem.
