I decided at the end of March to spend 4 days in the Altoona area. It was an interesting trip. I had sun, clouds, rain and then SNOW. I saw around 90 trains during my stay and seen UP, BNSF, CP Rail, CN, and BC Rail. I also saw 2 Heritage units - Penn Central at night and trailing and the NW in Rose Yard before it left. Here is some of the action: Pic 1: March 27, NS 23Z coming west in Altoona with an OLS Dash 9 trailing. Pic 2: March 27, NS 10N coming east in Altoona with a CP Rail GEVO trailing at dusk. Pic 32: I woke up on March 30 to snow. So I took advantage of it. Here is the Holidaysburg, PA local leaving Altoona with a GP59E leader. Having been born and raised in western PA (Pgh), but left for college and have since lived in other parts of the country for the last 33 years I always check out posts such as these and thoroughly enjoy them.
