Eastern Railroad Discussion > Daily Indiana Railroad Intermodal departs IndyDate: 04/22/14 12:27 Daily Indiana Railroad Intermodal departs Indy Author: LX15840 The attached video shows the daily Indiana Railroad intermodal train departing the far south side of Indianapolis today. The two MACs are more than adequate power for this train, however it has taken over an hour to go the first 9 miles due to slow orders. The plan is to replace most of the ties and rail over this stretch this summer. These containers may be bound for China via the CNs Prince Rupert gateway.

Date: 04/22/14 14:11 Re: Daily Indiana Railroad Intermodal departs Indy Author: santafedan Good work, Dick. That would be 69000 ties to be exact.
Dan* Date: 04/22/14 17:50 Re: Daily Indiana Railroad Intermodal departs Indy Author: LX15840 It might be close to that on the tie count, Dan. They have dropped a full bundle every hundred feet or so. I have never seen so many ties dropped in that concentration before. There is about 5 miles of ribbon rail awaiting installation....this will be cut into short sections so they do not have to use those expensive ribbon rail fasteners.
Dick Date: 04/22/14 19:09 Re: Daily Indiana Railroad Intermodal departs Indy Author: junctiontower Considering the railroad and where it goes, that seems like a pretty respectable number of containers. I hope they can made a go of that service, if for no other reason than to provide some more hedge against the uncertain coal market.

Jim Date: 04/24/14 05:52 Re: Daily Indiana Railroad Intermodal departs Indy Author: LX15840 The daily intermodal leaves just after noon from the Senate Ave. yard just south of the Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. It takes over an hour for it to reach the Indianapolis city limits at County Line Road due to slow orders, so it is very easy to chase during that portion of the trip. Once he gets into the clear just north of County Line Rd., he opens it up and quickly gets to track speed since the train is usually short.
