Eastern Railroad Discussion > That hot topic of the day...Date: 07/15/14 16:39 That hot topic of the day... Author: RAILWATCH I received a text very early this morning asking if I knew where the DDA40X was... thankfully, I'm up early so was able to reply back as no.
Then, as I left for work, turned on the scanner, began to hit the road, I heard 34N call out (with the Union Pacific 6944) - passing under me as I got on the highway. I tried to intercept it by getting off at the next exit, that was a fail due to heavy work traffic and road construction. I thought, forget it, there is no way to catch it that would be on my way to work, so began that way. Then, got a text from another that the drawbridge was raised and 34n along with I believe 22W were holding. I then darted over to Garfield Heights where I knew I could catch it & made it to work, just a bit late.... Here are those results! - Denny, Lakewood, OH Photo 1) 22W in morning sun. Photo 2) 34N at a distance. ...more Date: 07/15/14 16:40 Re: That hot topic of the day... Author: RAILWATCH Date: 07/15/14 17:01 Re: That hot topic of the day... Author: garr Nice way to start the day and a nice catch.
Sure is going to be nice to see the "after" pictures from the return trip as the "before" pictures show this loco in just a little worse shape-paint wise-as some of the GE warbonnets still in service. And thanx for following the 6944 as she rolled past. Too many people don't do that. (Someone had a flat spot -- one of the covered hoppers, I think.) It's going to Altoona from what I've heard, for some restoration at the Juanita shops. Then will return. - Denny Date: 07/16/14 07:44 Re: That hot topic of the day... Author: ntharalson For a cell phone video, you did a remarkable job of holding the phone steady
and making a nice video. Thanks for posting. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 07/16/14 08:37 Re: That hot topic of the day... Author: hoydie17 RAILWATCH Wrote:

This is part of a deal brokered by NS to get another locomotive transferred to the VMT in Roanoke, although the specifics escape me at the moment.
