Why did CSX get anymore GP60? I know CSX only has 3 of them

The 3 that CSX has were part of a trade with EMDX (maybe LLPX) at the time that sent a majority of the
ex B&O and C&O GP38's to them in trade for the GP60's and a group of SD70M's.
I also believe the GP60 may have also be out of production by this time.
All 3 are assigned to Winston Florida

CSXT 6897 was LLPX 6001/ EMD 5 Demo unit
CSXT 6898 was LLPX 6002/ EMD 6 Demo unit
CSXT 6899 was LLPX 6003/ EMD 7 Demo unit

6899 is currently in the shop at Huntington with Major electrical issues and also due for "Standard Repairs"
The other 2 are in service and in Florida

The 3 GP60s CSXT has were demonstrators, so they were probably relatively cheap. Gerry

They got the three GP60 demos in a trade with LLPX during which they also acquired some lease-fleet SD70Ms (now CSX 4650 series), in exchange for a bunch GP38s and GP15-1s they considered surplus.

They also picked up the three SD60's that were built as BN demonstration units (8300-8302) and which also became part lease fleet.

Ah yes. What CSX numbers did those get?

They got one more sd60, 8790, of CR heritage from NS. Not sure how that acquisition came about though.

CSXT 8790 is former NS 6701/CR 6840/EMDX 1.

Conrail had acquired EMD demo SD60 units 1, 2, and 4 in 1984, which became Conrail 6840-6842. In the Conrail takeover, NS received the 6840, which became NS 6701. CSXT received 6841 an 6842, which became CSXT 8711 and 8710. When the long-term leased expired at the end of 2000 on the 6701, NS chose not to renew it. CSX then acquired the unit and it became CSXT 8790.

deeck, the renumbering was slightly out of order .......

EMD 5,6,7 to LLPX 6002, 6003, 6001 to CSXT 6898, 6899, 6897 in that order.
