Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX Detours continueDate: 07/24/14 13:21 CSX Detours continue Author: steamertony As of Thursday morning, CSX is continuing to run some priority freights to North Jersey along Susquehanna's route from Syracuse, NY to the connection at CP3 at North Bergen, NJ back to home rails. Today's freights are Q156 and Q004, both eastbound. Apparently, congestion at Selkirk Yard and on the River Line continues, which is actually great news for CSX. NYS&W's line provides a safety valve for CSX and, if necessary, NS also. They both have a financial interest in NYS&W, but I'm not sure of the percentage of each.

NS and CSX have equal stakes in the NYS&W, however the Delaware Otsego Corporation holds the controlling stake. If Selkirk is starting to jam up the way Stanley is over here in Toledo, the problem is trains being held out of the yard, and tying up sidings/second main from those positions. And when the number of potential places to meet trains diminishes, that forces consideration of using alternative routes (if available). twl Date: 07/24/14 15:44 Re: CSX Detours continue Author: steamfan 4 trains in 5 plus hours seems sparse. Just an observation, perhaps not the norm...

There was a small derailment in Selkirk that caused quite a jam in the yard. So some priority trains that don't do work in Selkirk ie q156 and q004 have been using the Squeak relief valve. There has also been at least one w/b in this case q710 trash train. I wish it was purely from congestion on the riverline, the insinuation that the detours continue indefinitely. I imagine crew shortages could be a big culprit as well.
