Eastern Railroad Discussion > Southern Belles and NYC in Illinois

I've rarely gotten out to railfan this summer due to taking a seasonal maintenance job but I finally got around to watch some. For the little time I spent out and about this afternoon I was treated to KCS power and the New York Central heritage unit. Enjoy!

Image 1: KCS Southern Belle ES44ACs 4807 and 4683 lead NS M45 out of Decatur as it approaches Wabic interlocking.

Image 2: The New York Central heritage unit leads a loaded pellet train (NS 48E) west out of Illiopolis, IL. This train goes to the BNSF in Kansas City for forwarding to Texas if I remember correctly... Heads up Missouri!

Nice shots!

May want to note that the train with the two KCS units was M45. We've used that symbol a lot lately for this train west of Decatur. Also, this 48E is bound for Optima, OK via the UP at Kansas City. The foreign power, if any, on 48E is often an indicator of its destination.

That would be NS 8834, a C40-9. Believe me you're not the only one that has asked that LOL!!

Yeah. These came out of Tate & Lyle in Lafayette I think.
