Saturday around St. Joe
Author: TrainCatcher

St. Joe, Indiana - where the CSX Garrett Sub is crossed by the NS former Wabash Detroit to St. Louis line. The NS former NYC Waterlevel Route is about 7 miles to the north of the CSX which is in easy adjusting distance when the scanner indicates traffic and the CSX is slow. The weather forecast was for approaching storms from the west and I managed 8 this morning of Saturday, July 26th.

Eastbound CSX 93 mixed freight car Cincinnati bound Q501-25 with the lone BNSF 4398 east of Auburn, IN at 0700 in the early hazy part of the day.

Eastbound CSX ethanol train (I had a hard time clearly identifying the crew callout for this one - best guess - K426) with a pair of EMD's: 8837 & 8766 at EE SDI at 0724.

I moved up to the NYC for eastbound CP train 244 splitting the NYC milepost 364 signals on the east side of Waterloo with lone CP 9723 at 0756.

Next up was another eastbound CP train, 642, at the milepost 363 end measured mile signage on the east side of Waterloo with a rare pair of CITX bluebird boats: 1053 & 1031 at 0817.

I had heard eastbound CSX train Q368 get permission from the dispatcher to depart Garrett before shooting CP642 and I quickly drove back to St. Joe arriving with 30 seconds to spare to bag the 9 unit lashup, 7600' mixed freight train Q368-25 at 0831. The consist was BNSF 4128, CSX' 5207, 5271, 432, SD60, 448, CITX 3140, CSX' 7326 & 1518. The train would stall to the east and create dispatcher frustration as the leader would run out of fuel.

Eastbound CSX oil train, K010-26, at EE SDI with fading swoosh 7554 & 7882 at 0851 with 94 tank cars of Bakken oil.

Next was the only Wabash train of the session - eastbound L96 the Fort Wayne to SDI (south of Butler) - with 6122 & 5803 at 0940 south of St. Joe.

Lastly was eastbound oil train K110 with BNSF 977 & NS 8982 at Garrett, IN at 1031 after setting out a car in the yard.

Very nice series of pictures. It is interesting to see the change in lighting from photo #1 to #2 in 24 minutes.
