Eastern Railroad Discussion > Where is it? (Night Stalker Photo Works Edition)Date: 09/01/14 08:10 Where is it? (Night Stalker Photo Works Edition) Author: hoydie17 I'll give a couple hints, this is in Northern Virginia on the NS Washington District.
I'll provide the customary narrative at the end of the day, or when I get a specific location and train ID. Date: 09/01/14 08:32 Re: Where is it? (Night Stalker Photo Works Edition) Author: goneon66 have no idea where it is BUT what an awesome pic.......

Date: 09/01/14 14:38 Re: Where is it? (Night Stalker Photo Works Edition) Author: RMD23 From the look of the conductor in the next mili-second he must have shouted "holy @#$% what was that???". On a serious note, won't an unexpected flash in the dark like this be disturbing (and potentially blinding for a second or two) to the crew?

Date: 09/01/14 16:05 Re: Where is it? (Night Stalker Photo Works Edition) Author: cinder Well it looks like a single track bridge, so I'm guessing it is the B-Line. The two engines make me think it is the "dark-of-night" local that goes as far west as necessary and returns to Manassas before dawn......P97 or P98?
That being said, the B-Line is not part of the Washington District......So my guess doesn't work. However, the trees look too close to the track for the former Southern mainline Washington District. You leave me in a quandary Sean. What is your geographic limit of "Northern Virginia"? South of Culpeper is not considered NV. West of Marshall is not considered NV. Edited 2 time(s). Date: 09/01/14 16:17 Re: Where is it? (Night Stalker Photo Works Edition) Author: mp208 I guess not the Rapidan because its single track. Some crossing of Goose creek on the B line.......around Markham or Delaplane
Date: 09/01/14 16:39 Re: Where is it? (Night Stalker Photo Works Edition) Author: cinder Yes.....I think it is the B-Line. The manifest train is either 35Q or 36Q or P97 or P98. I'm now thinking 35Q or P97.

------------------------------------------------------- > NS night local to Strasburg crossing Passage > Creek? Not sure if you saw my colleague's posting of his shot from the same location on Facebook, but no matter, this is absolutely correct. The train is P96 and it is just passing through Buckton on the B-line. B-line is still considered to be part of the Washington District, or at least it is under the control of the WD dispatcher in Greenville. My friend Mike took the shot of the westbound run of P96, and I took the returning eastbound run. P96 only gets out this far 2 or 3 nights a week at best and always runs at night. It's the only way to get an NS train this far west of Riverton Junction. I'd first found this spot on a late night spate of boredom while exploring the B-line via Google Maps a couple years ago. It took me a while to finally get the right information and figure out which train went that far west and when. Then it became a matter of finding the time to go out and get the photo, which happened last night. The P96 doesn't run at all on Fridays or Saturdays, which meant I had to find a night when I was on a 3 day weekend. In any case, there it is. Only complaint I have is I would have preferred some 4-axle EMDs or even an SD40-2, but the Tophat does okay here as well. Date: 09/01/14 17:23 Google aerial photo maps Author: mp208 It was easy. Looked over the B line on the west end for a two concrete support bridge.
