A friend of mine texted me a pic of the new CN US Headquarters building in Homewood. Now why did they decide to build a brand new building when the one in use doesn't appear to be even 20 years old.
Now I know when the $3 Million goes instead of using it to keep their locomotives clean!

Maybe they needed a bigger building than the old one? No doubt they are trying to combine all of the ex IC, WC ,GTW, and EJE employees into one building. If the old building was built 20 years ago, it was built only for the IC.

Homewood will now also serve as a training center for new-hire and recert classes for all their U.S. properties, so there is a need for classroom space. My understanding is the new building would be the training center, but do not know what other functions may move in there with them, or if the old building would be kept or demolished.

There is a smaller building north of the current one on the east side of the road. Is that one owned by CN?

So CN is going to pay for ALL of their U.S. employees to travel to and stay in the Chicago area just for re-certs? That sounds expensive and time-consuming.

Sounds to me like CN's US management feels as if they will have better control of the training if all is right across the street from the big house.

It's a CN building and the year is 2014: a target practice range would be more likely.
