Eastern Railroad Discussion > ALCOs + Heritage at Slateford JctDate: 09/06/14 05:57 ALCOs + Heritage at Slateford Jct Author: kgmontreal Last Thursday the Delaware Lackawanna ran a combined PT98/Pocono grain train out of Scranton. Leaving Scranton it had six units on the front and two on the rear. At Slateford Jct the NS delivered 66 cars to DL with a three unit lashup including the Lackawanna Heritage unit. It's shown here at Portland, PA before backing the train to the DL interchange.
The video shows the DL at Moscow, PA on its way back to Scranton. KG You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! Date: 09/06/14 06:09 Re: ALCOs + Heritage at Slateford Jct Author: WLE2679 Nice catches and video! Might have to make a trip up that way next year.

Date: 09/06/14 07:11 Re: ALCOs + Heritage at Slateford Jct Author: toledopatch Looks like DL is getting a share of the frac-sand boom. It also looks like they're getting some more units painted, or else just great fortune to have four of the same suit running together.
The Alcos are going downhill westbound at Moscow, hence the engines aren't working hard (except for any dynamic braking). Date: 09/06/14 09:15 Re: ALCOs + Heritage at Slateford Jct Author: ALcocentury Nice catch, photos, and the video, thank you for posting them
Date: 09/06/14 09:33 Re: ALCOs + Heritage at Slateford Jct Author: kgmontreal DL is indeed profiting from the frac sand business. They have built a frac sand terminal at Carbondale. Here's wayfreight SC7 on the Wednesday afternoon returning from Carbondale with a few miscellaneous cars and the frac sand empties.
As for trackwork there's a contractor had at work between Scranton and Moscow. Thousands of new ties are piled beside the right-of-way at Elmhurst. In fact, the grain train planned for Wednesday could not run due to the track renewal. That's why it was combined with Thursday's PT98. KG Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/06/14 11:50 by kgmontreal. Really liked the video for many reasons especially how good those first 4 Alco/MLW's looked in matching paint. Date: 09/06/14 11:10 Re: ALCOs + Heritage at Slateford Jct Author: zfan Cool video! I don't have a copy of an old timetable handy, but even in the 1960s, the Erie Lackawanna ripped up the hill as well as down hill. On jointed rail. With no segment straighter than a few hundred feet. Long before folks with radar guns. There's some ancient rail on a siding outside the power plant, with thick trees growing between the ties. I believe that's vintage 1910, and dates from the era when the Old Main Line was The Main Line. Before the Cut-Off. |
