Speaking of Amtrak, they were not far behind and has since shoved backwards through the loop and high tailed it back towards Pittsburgh

Anyone know if Amtrak will haul passengers all the way back to Pittsburgh or bus from Johnstown?

Looks like more than nine racks to me. Radio chatter here in Toledo, where an eastbound ethanol train was tied down because of this mess, indicated 27 on the ground. If so, that'll be rather expensive for NS, because every vehicle in every derailed autorack will have to be destroyed.

Amtrak has been stopped in Johnstown for about a half hour now with clear signals ahead of him so I would assume their gonna be bussed from there.

That would make sense and a logical move would be to run 43 to Altoona and bus those folks to Johnstown to continue to Pittsburgh.

Just heard on scanner Ft.Wayne Fostoria District Dispatcher
telling Eastbound 20R at Fostoria, because of a derailment in Pa.
they will be routed Bellevue to Sandusky, Ohio.

From that point 20R would use the X-Conrail Water Level.

I do not know where 20R terminates, but it looks
like when it gets to Cleveland from Sandusky
it will take route Cleveland - Conneaut, Ohio on to Buffalo, N.Y.
using the former NKP - N&W - Cleveland - Buffalo, Division.

From that point 20R would use the x-Conrail Southern Tier.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

They will BUS passengers at Pittsburgh. I was listening to the feed. So all the passengers who needed to go to Altoona have to wait.. So Close yet so far.. Amtrak 04T turned around at the Y at Gallitzin...

It's certainly plausible for this train to go as far as Binghamton on the Tier. It will be interesting to see what they do with it after that -- down to Harrisburg via NS's trackage rights over CP to Sunbury? Or directly to New Jersey via the Delaware Division, presumably with NYSW pilots?

I'm not sure having the Mule Shoe route would have helped. The derailed train appears to be stopped very close to the junction of the Mule Shoe route's eastern end and the Pittsburgh Line.

Is 20R a stack train? If so, is the CP from Binghamton to Sunbury cleared for stacks, and NS from Sunbury to Rockville? The Southern Tier to NYSW to Little Ferry is definitely clear (Conrail's first double stack route to the west starting in 1984) and much shorter and quicker. I'm sure there is some way to get off the NYSW at Little Ferry to NS's Croxton Yard. Have not they done that before?

NS 20R is a stack train.

If they ran it via Port Jervis, why would it have to take the Susquehanna to get to Croxton? They could just run it into NJ on the Erie, with an NS crew handling the move from Campbell Hall east....

And NYSW already blew a crew slot on the AAPRCO train this AM,so they are one down until those guys are rested. If all are on deck best they can do is maybe 1 or 2 each way on any segment.

Does not look like it messed with the east end of Alto. Other option years ago would be the Muleshoe to Holidaysburg then the H&P to Petersburg. ----------- Ken

The only issue with this idea: 20R goes to eport, which would require at least one backup move. Either go through Croxton, Kearny out the P&H then back up at west end of Oak Island. Or back up at cp1 onto national docks secondary to access eport
